Angel Southern Live Oak Charleston, South Carolina helpCourtesy City of Charleston Show Your SupportCharleston City Council recently initiated new preservation stipulations for the developable area adjacent the Angel Oak. The media and general public can help to preserve this horticultural treasure by insisting that the requirements of Charleston City Council be given strict adherence or even requesting more stringent requirements. Contact the City Council and let them know that you support their work to preserve and protect the tree. Get InvolvedRecent actions by the City Council may not be enough to protect the tree. The 52 acres surrounding the Angel Oak are fully developable and valued at $3.5 million. Public support of a non-profit organization or governmental agency to purchase the property (or a portion of it) and place it under a conservation easement would secure the Angel Oak from the threat of adjacent development. |
