James Glenn Reeves

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Reeves grew up in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Lamar High School, he earned a B.Arch. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1967 and an M.L.A. from the University of Michigan in 1970. While in Ann Arbor, he worked with the landscape architecture firm Johnson, Johnson and Roy. In 1970, Reeves joined Sasaki, Walker and Associates (which became the SWA Group) in Sausalito, California, and he played an important role in the success of SWA offices in Houston, Dallas, and Boston, becoming a senior design principal and supervising projects nationwide. Working along with the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and the sculptor Robert Glen, Reeves designed Williams Square, a 90,000-square-foot plaza in Irving, Texas, in 1984. He also developed site planning and designs for the Riverside Plaza in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Antioch Park in Houston. In 1990, Reeves and his wife, Victoria, established the design firm JVR and Associates in Hancock, New Hampshire. Reeves served as the lead landscape architect for a sculpture park at the First National Bank of Omaha鈥檚 corporate campus in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1998, but did not live to see the project completed. He occasionally taught design classes and lectured at several universities, including the University of Michigan, Rice University, Cornell University, and Harvard University. His work on Williams Square received an Honor Award in the Design category from the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1985. Reeves passed away at his home in Hancock at the age of 60.
