Helen Bullard

The dutiful and trusted manager of the Olmsted office for many decades, Bullard was hired in 1892 as a secretary to John Charles Olmsted and remained with the firm for several decades. Bullard鈥檚 responsibilities grew to include overseeing records and correspondence, numerically filing each job, and handling bank deposits. Her thorough management of the firm鈥檚 paperwork brought organizational acumen to the Olmsted archive鈥檚 complex body of information (which has proven to be a godsend to present-day researchers, scholars and practitioners). Employment records show that in 1925, Bullard earned $225 per month, more than any other female clerical workers in the office, and equivalent to the salary of plans clerk Harry Perkins.
