Born in Marquette, Michigan, Roy lived in the Upper Peninsula until he went to the University of Michigan. He graduated in 1951 with a degree in Landscape Architecture and began his career at Lambert Associates in Dallas, Texas, a large residential design firm. Returning to Michigan, he formed a partnership with William Johnson in 1960. A year later, William Johnson鈥檚 brother Carl joined them and they formed the firm Johnson, Johnson and Roy (JJR, Inc.). The firm developed a multidisciplinary practice with offices across the country, consulting in landscape architecture, planning, urban design, civil engineering, and environmental science. Roy鈥檚 professional focus was on the areas of historic preservation, neighborhood revitalization, urban design, and campus planning. Significant projects include the plan for the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the upper peninsula of Michigan and the master plan for General Motors' New Center Neighborhood Revitalization Program. A Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, Roy was active in the ASLA at the local and national level and in local civic organizations and professional planning and landscape associations. He retired from JJR in 1992 and passed away in Dallas, Texas.
