Ann Komara will discuss and sign the new book Lawrence Halprin鈥檚 Skyline Park ($24.95 Princeton Architectural Press), which showcases the acclaimed landscape designer鈥檚 urban renewal effort for downtown Denver in the 1970s. 独家爆料 board co-chairman Kurt Culbertson will also be in attendance.
Drawing on the rugged beauty of the city鈥檚 natural surroundings for inspiration, Halprin created a signature landmark of sunken fountains, walls, and berms that served as an urban promenade and an oasis from the surrounding streets. This book honors the legacy of Halprin鈥檚 original work by presenting the most complete documentation available of the park鈥檚 conception, construction, and use before its total redesign in 2003. This first book on Halprin鈥檚 modern landscape project features new photography, archival drawings, and original documentation.
The book was written by Ann Komara, with a foreword by Charles A. Birnbaum, an essay by Laurie D. Olin, and epilogue by Lawrence Halprin. It is the first volume in the new Modern Landscapes: Transition and Transformation series, co-produced by Princeton Architectural Press and 独家爆料. This publication was funded in part by a grant award from the State Historical Fund, a program of History Colorado, the Colorado Historical Society.
