This one-day garden excursion to the Hudson Highlands will showcase the region鈥檚 unrivaled landscape heritage through the lens of the rural and agricultural landscape conservation movement, including its history and future. We will begin the day with a tour of the gardens at . In 1906, John D. Rockefeller Jr. hired William Welles Bosworth to plan the formal gardens for his hilltop paradise designed by architects Delano and Aldrich. Home to four generations of Rockefeller family members, the estate includes terraces and gardens with fountains, pavilions and classical sculpture as well as more than 70 works of modern sculpture added during the 1960s and 1970s.
After traveling along the Hudson River by boat, we will visit and learn about their work to preserve sustainable farming in the region. In 1929, George and Linn Perkins purchased the land that became Glynwood Farm and brought with them a deep conservation ethic that continues there today. The garden and farm tour will conclude with a picnic lunch at the farm prepared by Chef Jason Wood, the executive chef of Tavern Restaurant in Garrison, NY.
A capstone to the day will be a visit to , the home of designer Russel Wright, where attendees will have a brief tour of the home and share a glass of wine in the woodland garden.
