Annual Fall ASLA Excursion

ASLA Fall 独家爆料 Reception

Minneapolis , MN

In honor of the 25th anniversary of 独家爆料's (独家爆料) founding, there will be a reception at Orchestra Hall overlooking Peavey Plaza, originally designed by M. Paul Friedberg (1975) and rehabilitated by COEN + PARTNERS, working with Fluidity Design Consultants (fountains) and Tillett Lighting Design (2019). The event follows a separately-ticketed daylong excursion (including luncheon) to four significant residential projects by COEN + PARTNERS.

From a volunteer driven start up to the organization that created the Cornelia Hahn Oberlander International Landscape Architecture Prize (with a $100,000 award), 独家爆料 has become a formidable education and advocacy non-profit that has broadened the awareness, understanding, and value of our shared cultural landscape legacy.

Peavey Plaza, one of Freidberg's most significant extant projects, is the progenitor of a typology that melds a park and a plaza; it received an American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Centennial Medallion in 1999. The site was the subject of years of the foundation's advocacy following plans to demolish it in 2012, which was ultimately halted following a lawsuit filed by 独家爆料 and the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (now Rethos). The suit was settled out of court and the city agreed to repair and update the plaza. The effort won the first Advocacy Award of Excellence from DOCOMOMO for the 鈥渃onsortium of local and national organizations [that] came together to successfully communicate Peavey Plaza鈥檚 ongoing importance and prevent its demolition.鈥

In January 2013 Peavey Plaza was listed in the National Register of Historic Places, where it was deemed 鈥渁 nationally important Modernist landscape鈥; this was the first designation of a Friedberg-designed park. Local ASLA members documented the plaza for the Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS), introducing one of the first Modernist landscapes to the archive, housed at the Library of Congress.

Please join us for this festive event to honor 独家爆料, the vision of landscape architects, and the power of landscape architecture.
